 SCIENCE ACTIVIES » CORES FINANCAL SUPPORT PROGRAM
Background

In January 2009, the P³G Board of Directors agreed to a one-time funding program designed to support the research of P³G Core members. This decision was a result of merging P³G's commitment to both education and harmonization of information in the area of biobanking. To ensure open sharing of information, works benefitting from the grant may be posted on the P³G Observatory, and/or for inclusion in a P³G publication. Each grant may cover up to a maximum of CAD$5000 for services and activities that support pre-approved expenditures designed to bring the Core research to a broader audience. Grant recipients will make acknowledgment of P³G contribution with mutually acceptable language and placement.

P³G does not undertake to support all Cores. Core Financing Program is at the sole discretion of P³G. P³G reserves the right to limit the number of packages awarded based on the funds available (as pre-authorized yearly by the Board of Directors).

How to Apply

Only P³G Core members may apply. Proposals must be submitted by email to secretariat@p3g.org with the following information:

  • A cover letter addressed to the Core Review Committee explaining the project and how it is compatible with P³G objectives (as described in "What is a P³G Core?" and in consultation with the IWG, the Observatory or the Secretariat — as appropriate.
  • Describe how you intend for this work to be shared with the P³G and international community
  • Explain how the funds will be used. Include a detailed budget. Note that detailed billing information such as invoices and receipts will be required to receive reimbursements, should your proposal be accepted.
  • The proposed timeline for the project and when it will be ready
  • Indicate how and where the P³G contribution will be acknowledged
What the Grant May Be Used For

Pre-authorized expenditures and reimbursements (up to a maximum of $5000 CDN) for activities and/or services that will update, modify or adapt your work so it can be easily shared with the international community on the P³G Observatory website will be considered.

Expenses which may be considered include:

  • salary for a research assistant to help in the development of a generic version of a tool;
  • editing or translation of the work into English;
  • creating charts or other graphics to help illustrate the research;
  • other steps needed to adapt the work for inclusion in a P³G publication and where P³G would be recognized as a co-author
Approval Process

Proposals will be reviewed based on the merit of the application and on P³G's scientific priorities. Priorities will be given to projects that yield tangible deliverables for the P³G Consortium. Decisions are made by a Review Committee comprised of no less than four people, including: The Steering Committee Leader, an IWG Leader (affiliated with the Core), the P³G Scientific Director (at the Secretariat), and the P³G Executive Director. Decisions are delivered to the Board at their meeting.

Award letters are issued and include the amount awarded, the nature of the expenses authorized and the reimbursement modalities. Cores may be awarded such financial support only once.
